At the meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek City Council on economics, budget, finance, and investments held on February 9, the head of the Education Department of the city administration, Rakhmat Musaev, discussed the issue of the shortage of qualified personnel in the capital's schools.

Rakhmat Musaev noted that when new schools with Russian language instruction are opened in new residential areas, there is often a low level of education. She emphasized that out of more than 400 teacher vacancies in Bishkek, a significant portion pertains to schools where instruction is conducted in Russian.

According to the head of the department, such educational institutions open only one or two classes, and when students transition to the fifth grade, there is a serious shortage of subject teachers.

In light of this situation, the Education Department has prepared a proposal for the Ministry of Education. It involves abandoning the division of classes into Russian-speaking and Kyrgyz-speaking, and instead implementing bilingual instruction for certain subjects. According to the initiative, some lessons will be conducted in Kyrgyz, while others will be in Russian. In the future, there may also be plans to introduce instruction in English.

“This approach will be more effective,” emphasized R. Musaev.
