The Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Soheil Khan, emphasized that ecology remains a crucial topic for discussion within the organization over the past few years. This statement was made during the seventh Meeting of Ministers and Experts on Environmental Protection held in Bishkek.
He reported that 2024 has been declared the Year of Ecology in the SCO, which will kick off numerous initiatives in this area. Soheil Khan also noted that statements have already been made at the level of the Council of Heads of Government regarding ecological issues and waste management.
During the discussions, three important initiatives presented by Kyrgyzstan were considered, including improving air quality, implementing environmental measures over the next five years, and waste management issues, the Deputy Secretary-General added.
He highlighted that ecology is one of the main global problems that is inextricably linked to the development of technologies and economic sectors. Soheil Khan stressed the need to seek technological solutions that will help reduce the negative impact on nature.
Today in Bishkek, the final Protocol of the seventh Meeting of Ministers and Departments of SCO member states dealing with environmental protection was also signed.
The decisions made should serve as a foundation for further cooperation among relevant agencies at a new level of quality. The outcomes of the meeting will be of significant importance for preparing for the upcoming anniversary summit of the heads of state of the SCO.
