Blue Origin, founded by Jeff Bezos, has announced the launch of a new project to create the TeraWave satellite network. This became known through an official press release.

As part of the program, it is planned to launch 5,408 satellites into orbit, which will be positioned in low and medium Earth orbit. Work is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2027.

TeraWave aims to meet the needs of corporate clients, data centers, and government institutions. The network's bandwidth is promised to reach up to 6 Tbps.

According to media reports, the new satellite project is seen as a competitor to Starlink, which already has over 9,000 satellites and serves approximately 9 million users worldwide.

The architecture of the TeraWave network is based on a multi-orbit system that includes satellites in low and medium Earth orbit. The system will use both radio frequency channels in the Q and V bands and optical communication links between satellites. This configuration will ensure high fault tolerance, scalability, and access to high data transmission speeds, especially in regions where laying fiber-optic infrastructure is challenging or economically unfeasible.
