Currently, the existing electricity tariffs for the population are socially oriented, meaning they are set significantly below market value. According to the Ministry of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, this situation requires changes.
In this regard, the ministry has developed a medium-term tariff policy for 2025–2030, aimed at balancing financial flows and eliminating deficits in the energy system.
To ensure reliable electricity supply to consumers, annual repairs of energy equipment, overhead lines, transformers, and other necessary facilities are planned. For a long time, the existing tariffs did not cover the actual cost of electricity, and the difference was covered by budget loans. Now, however, a phased increase in tariffs to the level of actual cost is planned.
From May 1, the tariff for users who consume up to 700 kilowatt-hours per month will increase by 27 tyiyn, amounting to 1 som 64 tyiyn per kilowatt-hour. The social threshold will remain at the same level.
The implementation of the new medium-term tariff policy will allow for the elimination of funding deficits in the energy sector in the future, support the economic development of the country, and ensure affordable electricity supply for new facilities, including residential buildings, kindergartens, schools, and medical institutions.
