The Ministry of Agriculture is implementing pheromone traps for effective monitoring of quarantine pests

The Department of Chemicalization, Plant Protection, and Quarantine of the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry annually collaborates with the Federal State Budgetary Institution "All-Russian Center for Plant Quarantine" for the application of pheromone traps.
In 2026, 2,220 such traps were purchased, intended for 19 species of quarantine objects. The main ones include a universal yellow sticky trap that attracts various pest species, as well as pheromone traps for the black pine weevil, eastern fruit moth, and four-spotted grain beetle, among others.

Pheromone traps are special chemical substances produced by the insects themselves to convey information about their species.

The method of pheromone monitoring is considered one of the most effective and scientifically justified ways to detect and identify quarantine pests.

The use of pheromones with appropriate traps allows for obtaining information about the phytosanitary condition of quarantine objects within several hours to 3-5 days. These traps are one of the safest for the environment means of plant protection.
