Changes have occurred in the regulation of private educational institutions in Kazakhstan. This information was announced by the Minister of Education, Zhuldyz Suleimenova, during a meeting with the leaders and founders of private schools in Almaty, as reported by Tengrinews.

According to the new requirements, private educational institutions will only be allowed to open in areas where there is a real need. Licenses for opening will be issued only in cases where it is necessary to replace three-shift schools or institutions that are in emergency condition, as well as in regions where there is a shortage of public schools.

Furthermore, under the new regulatory framework, the requirements for the founders of private schools will be increased. "Founders will be held responsible for the quality of education, the qualifications of teachers, and the safety of students. It is also planned to revise the procedure for appointing directors. Now appointments will be coordinated with the relevant ministry and local authorities, rather than being left solely to the discretion of the founders," the ministry added.

As of January 2026, there are 890 licensed private schools operating in Kazakhstan. The government is also considering the possibility of introducing a moratorium on the placement of government orders in newly opened private schools.
