Elvira Turumkul kyzy, a resident of the city of Karakol, is passionate about knitting shoes and handmade bags. This year, her products attracted many buyers at a major winter fair.

She was born in 1991 in the village of Bayzak, in the Naryn region, worked as a seamstress, and got married in 2013. In Karakol, she lives with her husband and two sons.

Elvira continues to engage in her favorite pastime in her free time, turning her hobby into a profession.

“I started with knitting bags. The first one was made from cord yarn, and my hands hurt a lot, but I didn’t give up. Gradually, I moved on to shoes, and I knitted sneakers on the first try. Everything depends on imagination,” she says.

Her family supports Elvira, especially her husband, who helps with purchasing materials. She chooses the materials herself and pays attention to their quality.

“I priced the first bag for sale at 600 soms, and my mother-in-law bought it for 1000 soms,” Elvira recounts.

She knits one pair of shoes in 3–4 days. Knitted shoes are lightweight and warm, which makes them popular.

Elvira takes orders at her home and offers finished products on social media. Prices depend on material costs: shoes range from 1000 to 2000 soms, while bags range from 600 to 2000 soms.

— “I always want to try knitting something new. When I see a new model, I immediately want to make it. Creating things with my own hands brings me joy,” she says.

In the future, Elvira intends to develop her craft and teach others.

She advises beginner artisans: “Don’t be lazy and don’t give up. Patience will lead to results,” she concluded.
