The incident that led to the trial occurred in April 2025 at a gas station, where a mass brawl involving citizens of Uzbekistan took place. As a result of this conflict, two people died: one died on the spot from a stab wound, while the other fell into a coma and later died in the hospital.
According to the Dubai Public Prosecutor's Office, the conflict arose between two familiar groups and was related to a long-standing personal dispute. The participants in the incident were identified through surveillance camera footage and witness testimonies, after which they were detained in a hotel in another emirate. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor's office for further investigation.
On April 25 of last year, a meeting took place between Uzbek diplomats and the leadership of the Dubai Criminal Investigation Department, during which it was reported that as a result of the investigation, 15 citizens of Uzbekistan had been detained, and investigative actions were ongoing.
The UAE authorities emphasized that the increasing offenses involving Uzbeks abroad could negatively affect the visa-free regime between the countries. Earlier, in November 2024, after the murder of a rabbi from Israel committed by citizens of Uzbekistan in Dubai, the authorities in Abu Dhabi began denying entry to many men from Uzbekistan, sending them back. At the end of March last year, three Uzbeks convicted of murdering the rabbi received death sentences from a court in the UAE.
