At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev raised an important issue regarding the 'visa regime' in effect between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, emphasizing the humanitarian problems that have arisen.
He noted that there are foreign citizens in several families in Kyrgyzstan who cannot cross the border due to existing migration restrictions. This leads to the separation of spouses and leaving children outside the country.
In response, Deputy Foreign Minister Almaz Imangaziev reported that changes to migration legislation were introduced in Kazakhstan in 2023. A regime is now in place that allows individuals to stay in the country for "90 days within 180 days."
This regime was agreed upon during negotiations and will remain in effect until December 2025.
"After December 2025, Kazakhstan will continue to apply this regime. In this regard, the Kyrgyz side was also forced to introduce reciprocal measures for citizens of Kazakhstan," the deputy minister explained.
He also noted that there are individual cases where citizens, unaware of the new rules, face difficulties when entering Kyrgyzstan. Although such cases are few, the humanitarian aspect remains important.
"In the first half of 2026, we intend to address such situations. If citizens are unable to enter the country for humanitarian reasons, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will take measures to resolve these issues," added Imangaziev.
