Methods of Virus Transmission
The main source of the Nipah virus is bats, and its transmission should be considered as a zoonotic disease. Infection occurs through direct contact with an infected animal or by consuming contaminated food.
As Prelyasko noted, cases of human-to-human transmission of the virus are observed in exceptional situations, particularly within families, when there is close contact with the bodily fluids of the infected.
Lack of Effective Treatment and Vaccine
The virologist emphasized that currently there is no approved vaccine against the Nipah virus, nor are there specific medications for its treatment. Mainly supportive therapy is used, similar to that used for encephalitis. This infection is characterized by a high level of lethality.
