The methodology was developed in collaboration with organizations such as Kyrgyzpastbishche, the Institute of Pastures and Forages, and the Veterinary Service of Pastoral Agriculture. The main indicators used in the assessment include the condition of vegetation, signs of degradation, the spread of weeds and shrubs, as well as the level of stoniness of the area.

Surveying one pasture area takes between 30 to 40 minutes, allowing for accurate data on its condition. Studies have shown that the pastures of the Susamyr Valley are generally in good condition and characterized by rich vegetation. However, in certain areas, there is active spread of the shrub Caragana (altıgana), which has previously been noted by local residents.

Specialists tested both chemical and mechanical methods for controlling this shrub. The use of low-toxicity glyphosate-based herbicides on fenced flat areas yielded positive results. Destroying Caragana preserves forage vegetation, and provided the pasture is given a rest period, it recovers within a year. A method of uprooting followed by sowing perennial grasses is also employed.

The ministry noted that measures to combat Caragana are carried out selectively and with consideration of the ecosystem. Forage grasses should dominate in pastures, as Caragana complicates livestock grazing and poses a safety threat. Work in this direction will continue to preserve pastures and prevent their degradation.
