Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Nurlanbek Turghunbek uulu announced his resignation

On February 12, the Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, Nurlanbek Turgunbek uulu, announced his resignation from the position he held.

This decision was announced during a parliamentary session, and Turgunbek uulu will continue to serve as a deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh.

“We must develop political culture. I decided to resign from the position of Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh of my own accord, without any pressure. Stability is important in Kyrgyzstan, and I believe that the political reforms initiated by Sadyr Nurgozhoevich must be completed. I remain a deputy and am not going anywhere,” he noted.

Turgunbek uulu has headed the Jogorku Kenesh since 2022 and was re-elected to this position in December 2025 after early elections.

The candidate for the new speaker's position is deputy Marlen Mamataliev, according to information from several sources in parliament provided to Kaktus.media.

According to preliminary data, there are currently no alternative candidates expected.
