Currently, 50 cubic meters of water per second is flowing through the Akaklakski hydro junction, and by the end of the year, authorities plan to strengthen the protective dam and begin a new phase of the project to restore the Northern Aral. This gives hope to the residents.
“In our village of Bogen, there are about 200 families, and almost every family has a fisherman. The well-being of our people depends on the sea, and everyone is hopefully awaiting its further filling,” said a resident of the village of Bogen, Torekhan Dilzhanov.
Every year, up to 8,000 tons of fish are caught in the Small Aral. Experts believe that this has been achieved thanks to years of efforts to preserve the water body. In 2022, the reconstruction of the Kokaral Dam began, and after the completion of the work, it will be possible to reliably supply the sea with water. This, in turn, will pave the way for economic and social initiatives.
