As a result of the upcoming reforms, the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic (GKNB) will return to its core tasks, refraining from interference in economic crimes and petty offenses. This was stated in an interview with IA "Kabar" by Sadyr Japarov, the head of state.
The president emphasized that the GKNB will focus exclusively on its specialized functions: intelligence, counterintelligence, protection of constitutional order, as well as the fight against terrorism, extremism, banditry, and drug trafficking. "The economy will not be an object of their interference," he added.
Additionally, Japarov criticized the GKNB's involvement in the fight against intimate services, noting that he had already told the previous head of the agency: "Hand over this area to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it is their competence. The level of the GKNB should not be lowered."
According to the president, the key goal of the reform is to make the GKNB a more closed and prestigious organization. "No one should know about the specific actions and employees of the GKNB. After the reform, it will be a full-fledged special service, similar to the former KGB," concluded Sadyr Japarov.
