Over five years, spending on school textbooks has increased from 120 million to 806 million soms - Ministry of Education

In recent years, funding for the purchase of textbooks for schools in Kyrgyzstan has significantly increased. Deputy Minister of Education Nadira Jusupbekova announced this fact during a meeting of the committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, which deals with science, education, and other important aspects.

According to her, in 2020, an amount of 120 million soms was allocated for these purposes, and by 2025, this figure has risen to 806 million soms.

In 2020, more than 330,000 textbooks were printed in the country, while by 2025, the number of publications increased to 5 million 85 thousand, including 651 thousand copies produced in collaboration with Russia.

“Currently, the provision of textbooks stands at 84.8%. This is related to the transition to 12-year education, which requires a complete review and update of the educational fund,” noted Jusupbekova.

The deputy minister clarified that from 2017 to 2024, more than 3.74 million textbooks were published in Kyrgyzstan, and only in 2025 did the print run exceed 5 million copies, including books produced in Braille.

“English language textbooks for students in grades 3–9 have already been adapted and delivered to all schools in the country. Currently, the adaptation of materials for grades 10–12 is ongoing,” added the deputy minister.
