In the valleys of the Eg, Uur, Orkhon, Kharaa, Tuul, Terelj, Kherlen, Onon, Ulz, and Khalh rivers, the temperature varies from -27 to -32 degrees Celsius. In the southwestern part of the Gobi, the air warms up to -16...-21 degrees Celsius, while in other areas, temperatures range from -22 to -27 degrees Celsius.
In the capital, Ulaanbaatar, there is also variable cloudiness, with no snow. The wind is from the northwest, at a speed of 2-7 meters per second. The daytime temperature in the city varies from -25 to -27 degrees Celsius, while at night it drops to -32...-35 degrees Celsius.
Dzud is a term used in Mongolia to describe a harsh winter during which a significant amount of livestock may die due to freezing or being buried under snow. In Kyrgyz, this phenomenon is called "zhut," and in Kazakh, it is referred to as "zud."
