In connection with the recent cases of Nipah virus infection reported in the Indian state of West Bengal, the authorities in Thailand have decided to implement strict health control measures. This was reported by the NBT World television channel.

Acting Prime Minister Anuthin Charnvirakul noted that the control measures are aimed at detecting possible cases of the disease. "Currently, the Nipah virus has not been detected in Thailand," he emphasized.

The Department of Disease Control and Prevention of Thailand previously announced the introduction of a state of heightened readiness, which includes preventive measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Experts advise thoroughly washing hands after contact with animals, especially bats, and avoiding the consumption of fruits that have fallen to the ground if they show signs of bites. It is important to note that Nipah is not transmitted through airborne droplets, as is the case with COVID-19. Transmission from person to person is possible through saliva or blood.

Additionally, Phuket International Airport has intensified medical checks for passengers arriving from India. The airport is working closely with medical institutions in Phuket and Phang Nga province to determine whether Indian tourists have sought medical assistance for symptoms similar to those of Nipah. The initial signs of infection may resemble those of the flu.
