On Friday, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) announced the start of an official investigation into the well-known American platform Roblox. The reason for this was suspicions of potential safety threats to users who have not yet reached adulthood.
In its statement, ACM clarified that it will evaluate the measures Roblox takes to protect underage users within the European Union.
This investigation will determine how effectively Roblox ensures the safety of its young players.
The platform often attracts public attention due to issues related to violence and sexual content, as well as reports of predators attempting to contact children through the game. Additionally, there are concerns about misleading methods used to encourage purchases.
ACM also reported that in recent months it has received reports of similar incidents and has been actively gathering information about the situation on the platform as part of a preliminary analysis.
In October, it became known that the Dutch government intends to examine the risks associated with child safety on the Roblox platform, where incidents of violence, extortion, and sexual harassment are recorded.
