What is the estimated total volume of gold in the world

As of today, the global value of gold is approximately 31 trillion dollars. According to Kazinform, the total amount of this precious metal mined since its use by humans will reach nearly 220 thousand tons by the end of 2025.

This information was published in a report by the World Gold Council (WGC) titled "Gold Market Fundamentals: Size and Structure of the Market."

The investment volume of gold, primarily represented by bars, is estimated at more than 15 trillion dollars. This includes about 9 trillion dollars stored in the form of physical bars and coins, as well as over-the-counter investment funds, 5 trillion dollars held by central banks, and nearly 1.5 trillion dollars accounted for by derivative financial instruments.

The largest share of gold reserves is in jewelry, accounting for 44%, followed by bars and coins at 21%, and central bank reserves at 18%. A smaller portion, equal to 10%, is used in industry and other purposes, while 5% is allocated for over-the-counter investments by both institutional and private investors, and 2% is held by ETFs (exchange-traded funds).

Despite its impressive size, gold occupies a relatively small position in global investment portfolios. Currently, about 3% of total global financial assets, estimated at 320 trillion US dollars, are investments in this precious metal, highlighting the disparity between the size of the market and its distribution.
