Scientists from the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna claim that this is the first known case of a cow using tools. The results of their study were published in the international scientific journal Current Biology.

According to zoologists, Veronika's ability to use a stick is a significant achievement. Previously, similar behavior had only been observed in chimpanzees. The scientists conducted 70 experiments with the cow, and each time she successfully completed tasks with the stick, including using a long-handled brush to scratch her back.
“We have no reason to consider cows to be stupid creatures. Veronika is not the only intelligent representative of her species, but her unique status as a pet rather than a farm animal has allowed her to develop various skills and interact with objects. Moreover, she lives a very long time,” noted Alisa Auer-Sperg, co-author of the study.
