Recently, the deputies of the Mazhilis approved a law concerning the ratification of a protocol that regulates the operation of checkpoints between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. According to this document, the checkpoint 'Kegen - Karkyra' will be switched to a round-the-clock operating mode, as reported by Kazakh media.
After the voting was completed, the bill was sent to the Senate for further consideration.
Kazakhstan's Minister of Transport Nurlan Sauranbaev noted that the transition to a round-the-clock operating mode will increase capacity, simplify the movement of citizens, and support the development of tourism.
According to ministry data, in 2025, 179,000 people and about 43,000 vehicles crossed the border through the 'Kegen - Karkyra' checkpoint.
