At the meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, a draft law on the ratification of a loan agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the OPEC Fund for International Development was approved. This document pertains to the program "Universal Access to Water Supply and Sanitation (Phase 1)" and was signed on September 23, 2025, in Bishkek.
As noted by the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, the goal of the project is to improve access to safe drinking water and sanitation for 126 settlements located in the Osh, Chui, and Issyk-Kul regions. The total funding for the program will amount to 200 million dollars, of which 20 million dollars will be allocated by the OPEC Fund. The loan conditions include a term of 20 years, a five-year grace period, and an interest rate of 1.25% per annum.
