At a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Finance, Budget, Entrepreneurship, and Competition Development, Deputy Kamila Talieva addressed representatives of the Ministry of Defense with a question about why the army is primarily composed of the titular nation of Kyrgyzstan.
She emphasized that there are about 80 different nationalities living in the country.
“Every citizen of Kyrgyzstan should fulfill their duty to the army. Why are representatives of other nationalities not serving? Do you have any data on this matter?” she asked.
First Deputy Minister of Defense Talaybek Sharshiev explained that there are specific requirements for selection.
“To join the National Guard, the minimum height must be 180 cm, and a complete family is also required. There are clear standards. Military service begins after the 9th grade; however, some representatives of nationalities have not even completed the 6th grade, which makes them unable to master the regulations,” he added.
Kamila Talieva requested written statistics on the number of representatives of other nationalities serving in the military.
