In 2025, Kyrgyzstan is experiencing a significant increase in the number of court cases related to domestic violence. This was reported by Nurgul Bakirova, Deputy Chair of the Supreme Court, at the 70th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women taking place in New York.
According to judicial statistics, the number of domestic violence cases reviewed in 2025 amounted to 1196, which is 24% higher than the results of 2024.
Bakirova noted that these figures highlight not only the ongoing relevance of the issue but also the growing number of identified offenses, as well as an increase in public trust in the judicial system.
She also added that Kyrgyzstan has a number of laws aimed at achieving gender equality and combating domestic violence, including the laws "On Protection and Defense Against Domestic Violence" and "On State Guarantees of Equal Rights and Equal Opportunities for Men and Women."
The forum discussing these issues gathers representatives from 107 countries and will last until March 19.
