Tulip from Kyrgyzstan reached the finals of the world competition in the USA

The Kyrgyz tulip striving upwards (Tulipa anadroma) has been selected to participate in the finals of an international competition dedicated to species of animals and plants that are at risk of extinction. This rare plant, which grows exclusively in Kyrgyzstan, has garnered the attention of experts from the Indianapolis Zoo (USA). Relevant information has been received from the Ministry of Natural Resources.

The initiative to participate in the competition belongs to a group of specialists working with wild tulips, under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN Species Survival Commission Wild Tulip Specialist Group).

The competition takes place in several stages:

- First stage: March 16–19

- Second stage: March 20–23

- Third stage: March 24–26

- Fourth stage: March 27–29

- Superfinal: from March 30 to April 3, 2026

If the project wins, it will receive financial support for the conservation of this unique species.

According to the department, this species of tulip is threatened with extinction. The main reasons include the collection of flowers by local residents and tourists, grazing livestock, as well as the digging up and sale of bulbs.
