In the Chui region, there is a growing population of American minks, according to reports from sport fishermen.

According to their observations, in the water bodies of the Alamudun and Sokuluk districts, located near Bishkek, this species feels confident and dominates over local animals.

“When we just started fishing and settled on the shore, a black, agile creature suddenly appeared. It paid no attention to us, exploring our belongings, fishing rods, and baits, but after finding nothing interesting for itself, it swiftly ran along the shore and disappeared into the reeds,” the fishermen shared their impressions.

At another water body, vacationers also encountered similar behavior from this predator.

“The American mink is an invasive species that was introduced to Kyrgyzstan from North America. It is an active predator, hunting year-round. It catches everything it can—fish, birds, frogs, and snakes. This predator swims and dives excellently. Nowadays, the American mink is actively occupying the Chui Valley and displacing local predators,” said ecologist Alexander Sosnovsky.
