Pike
This is one of the most well-known freshwater fish, the only species in its genus. The pike is found in Kyrgyzstan only in the Chu River, in its lower reaches.
It should be noted that this gluttonous predator can reach a length of 2 meters and a weight of over 40 kg. The body of the pike is cylindrical, with a dorsal fin slightly moved back, a huge and long head, with a wide mouth and small sharp teeth. The pike's eyes are mobile, allowing it to see well both to the side and above. The pike has very smooth and small scales and a distinctive coloration: the back is dark, the sides are gray-green, and the belly is white with gray spots. In general, the color of this fish depends on its age and habitat. The older the pike, the darker it is, especially in lakes with muddy bottoms. Those that inhabit bodies of water with sandy bottoms are lighter. Yearling pikes are always dark green; at the age of two, they are gray, and three-year-olds show yellow coloration.
The pike usually hides among vegetation, where it lies in wait for its prey.
The pike is a very popular character in fairy tales, appearing in proverbs, fables, and stories. Its image is endowed with magical power.
