Tibetan loach - Triplophysa (Noemacheilus) stoliczkai

It has a bare body, with a fold of skin extending from the eye to the tip of the snout. A fleshy ridge behind the dorsal fin is absent.

The usual length is 10–12 cm, with a maximum of up to 16 cm. The Tibetan loach is a typical inhabitant of high mountain rivers and lakes. Other species and subspecies are found in water bodies with a wide range of hydrological conditions, where they reach mass development.

Males differ from females by distinctive swellings located on the first five branched rays of the pectoral fin. During the spawning period, a "pearl rash" — epithelial tubercles — appears on the body of the Tibetan loach.

It forms the subspecies T.s.elegans — Tien Shan loach. Together with these two forms, seven species and subspecies of loaches inhabit the water bodies of Kyrgyzstan.

Tien Shan loach — Nemachilus stoliczkai elegans (Kessl)

In the dorsal fin III 7, in the anal III 5 rays. The body is brown with dark transverse stripes. It is distributed in the basin of Issyk-Kul, and the rivers Naryn, Chu, Talas. Its biology is poorly studied. It spawns in portions from May to July inclusive. It feeds on small benthic invertebrates, fish eggs, detritus flakes, and filamentous algae.

Gray loach — Nemachilus dorzalis (Kessl)

In the dorsal fin III 6 — 7, in the anal III 5 rays. The body is bare and gray in color. There are dark spots of irregular shape on the back and sides, sometimes merged together, but the lateral line is unpigmented, appearing as a light stripe. It is distributed in the basin of Issyk-Kul, and the rivers Chu, Naryn, Talas.

Its biology is poorly studied. According to observations by J. Imankulov, the gray loach spawns early in the ponds of the Frunze fish farm, from mid-March to July in portions. Fecundity reaches up to 18 thousand eggs (from all portions). It feeds on benthic invertebrates and is a notorious egg predator.
