Russian experts explain the basis for such optimistic forecasts
The Minister of Trade of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), Andrei Slepynev, stated in the media that over the three years of the Customs Union's existence, the trade turnover of the member countries has increased by 40%. Furthermore, the expert predicts a decrease in the prices of Russian, Belarusian, and Kazakh goods sold in Kyrgyzstan after the country's accession to the Customs Union.
– We are currently working on establishing mechanisms that will allow for the republic's accession to this union with minimal risks and maximum benefits, – noted Andrei Slepynev. – The reduction in the cost of goods may result from lower supplier costs and the elimination of administrative barriers.
At the same time, price increases are also possible, although this is already linked to fluctuations in foreign currency exchange rates outside the Customs Union. Moreover, the expert believes that new jobs will appear in Kyrgyzstan, as Russia and Kazakhstan have expressed their willingness to provide financial support to the Kyrgyz side.
– We will indeed develop new directions, – confirms Kubat Umurzakov, advisor to the Minister of Economy on integration issues, in his comment. – Our processing industry is not well developed at all. Yet, supplying finished products is more profitable than selling raw materials. For now, our priority sector remains the light industry. It employs more than 25,000 people. Tailors are engaged in re-export, and after joining the Customs Union, many may find themselves without work. For this purpose, we are currently reviewing the industry strategy. A technopolis and an industrial town will be built with funds allocated by Russia, where the sector will receive new development.
Regarding the statement about price reduction, the expert agreed with his Russian colleague, explaining that it is related to a number of objective reasons.
– Prices are formed under the influence of various factors. This includes, among other things, our low production costs in Kyrgyzstan and, conversely, the high purchasing power of Russians, – concluded Kubat Umurzakov.
