The reason for the reduction in foreign trade was the decrease in both export supplies, which fell by 38.2% to $2 billion 409.3 million, and imports, which decreased by 0.3% to $10 billion 394.2 million.
Kyrgyzstan continues to be a country with a high dependence on imports: 81.2% of the total trade turnover consists of external supplies.
Impact of Trade Bans
It is important to note that in 2025, the government repeatedly imposed restrictions on the export of various goods from Kyrgyzstan, including scrap metal and livestock. There were also bans on the import of certain goods, which undoubtedly affected the volumes of foreign trade, especially in terms of exports.
According to National Statistics data, there has been a decrease in the supply of live animals, footwear, waste and copper scrap, as well as ferrous metals and gold from Kyrgyzstan.
At the same time, the import of goods into the country has also decreased: the volumes of imported knitted fabrics, equipment, clothing, land transport and their parts, as well as meat and meat by-products have declined.
Trade with the EAEU
The situation with trade with EAEU countries looks more positive. Compared to January - October 2024, the trade volume increased by 1.1% and amounted to $4 billion 523.4 million.
However, exports remain a problem: they fell by 36.1%, totaling only $933.1 million, while imports increased by 19.2% to $3 billion 590.3 million.
The largest share of mutual trade with the EAEU came from Russia (64.3%) and Kazakhstan (33.2%).
In the overall trade turnover of Kyrgyzstan, trade with the EAEU accounted for 35.3%, of which 38.7% was for exports and 34.5% for imports.
