China has reached an important milestone in its trade: according to the country's General Administration of Customs, the surplus in merchandise operations has exceeded 1 trillion US dollars for the first time. This is reported by the Financial Times.

According to the publication, from January to November 2025, the total surplus amounted to 1 trillion 76 billion dollars. The main factor behind this growth was the high level of exports, despite weak domestic demand and slow import growth.

According to the data, exports of Chinese goods to the US fell by nearly 29 percent due to tariffs imposed by the administration of President Donald Trump. However, China was able to compensate for the decline in shipments to America by increasing exports to Southeast Asia and Europe.

Economists note that the record surplus level demonstrates both the stability of China's foreign trade and the existing problems with domestic consumption.
