Key issues related to food security were discussed at this event, including maintaining epizootic welfare, combating dangerous animal diseases, as well as developing the veterinary drug market and implementing innovative technologies within the Eurasian region.
In her speech, the Minister of Industry and Agriculture of the EEC, Goar Barsegyan, emphasized that food security is one of the main tasks of the economic policy of the EAEU countries. In the context of instability in global markets, reliable and predictable food supplies have become a matter of strategic importance.
According to Barsegyan, significant achievements have been made since the establishment of the EAEU: agricultural production has increased by 25%, the level of food self-sufficiency has reached 92%, and the volume of mutual trade between the union's states has grown by 70%. It is important to note that in 2014, the trade deficit was 24 billion dollars; however, since 2021, the EAEU has become a net exporter, and currently, agricultural exports exceed 40 billion dollars.
Representatives of the Department of Sanitary, Phytosanitary, and Veterinary Measures of the EEC also participated in the forum's proceedings.
