In the Aravan district of Kyrgyzstan, with the arrival of early spring, active potato planting has begun. According to a press release from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic, local farmers have successfully started sowing thanks to favorable weather and previously conducted agronomic activities.
According to the ministry's information, the potatoes currently being planted will be ready for harvest as early as May. One farmer, who cultivates a plot of 90 hundredths, hopes for a yield of over 20 tons during this period.
Farmers note that the "Riviera" variety allows for an early harvest and also enables them to collect it three times from one plot over the course of two months.
The ministry also added that land preparation was carried out last autumn, when it was fertilized and treated with special preparations and vitamins. To support farmers, the ministry provides equipment and necessary chemicals for field treatment.
The harvested potatoes will be sold both in the domestic market of Kyrgyzstan and exported to neighboring countries. Additionally, local residents are actively involved in the work, earning 1,500 soms per day for their efforts.
