In the near future, citizens will be able to inherit funds held in electronic wallets. This was announced at a press conference by Elizat Japarova, head of the banking supervision department of the National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic.
She noted that a draft law is currently under public discussion, which proposes changes to several legislative acts. These changes are aimed at expanding existing norms to include electronic wallets. Japarova reminded that last year, changes were made to the Law on the Protection of Bank Deposits, which provided protection for issuers of electronic money, such as banks, from the Deposit Protection Agency.
“In the modern financial space, alongside bank accounts, there are also electronic wallets,” Japarova added.
The draft law proposes to extend the inheritance practice that already exists for funds in bank accounts to electronic wallets. This initiative, proposed by the Ministry of Justice of the Kyrgyz Republic, has received support from the National Bank. The next step is the consideration of the draft law in the Jogorku Kenesh.
