On March 6, in the Bazar-Korgon district, located in the Jalal-Abad region, a ceremony was held for the laying of a time capsule, symbolizing the beginning of construction work on the modernization project of the Kara-Unkur-Sai irrigation system.
According to the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry, it was the minister who conducted the laying of the time capsule.
Representatives of local authorities, residents of the district, as well as investors and representatives of China Road also participated in the event.
The project involves updating the irrigation infrastructure, which will provide irrigation water to eight settlements in the Bazar-Korgon district. In particular, a complete reconstruction of 15 km of the main canal on the left bank, with a total length of 15.78 km, is planned, as well as the construction of 13.5 km of a new upper canal.
The implementation of the project will begin after conducting an international tender, following which a contract was signed for 853 million 476 thousand soms with China Road.
The main task of modernizing the Kara-Unkur-Sai irrigation system is to increase the capacity of the channels, reduce water losses, and improve the quality of irrigation water supply to the population.
After the project is completed, water supply will improve for 8,225 hectares of irrigated land in the city of Bazar-Korgon, as well as in the rural areas of Saydykum and Akman, positively impacting more than 114,000 residents.
The completion of the modernization work is expected by the end of December 2028.
