Structure and Population of the District
The Kadamjay District includes two cities of district significance — Kadamjay and Aydarken, as well as eight rural districts: Birlik, Orozbekov, Iskhak-Polotkhan, Moldonyaaz, Ak-Turpak, A. Masaliev, Uch-Korgon, and Maidan.
There are 114 populated areas in the district, 53 of which are located in the border zone. According to recent data, the total population of the district is 214,635 people.
The largest population is in the Maidan rural district — 32,911 people, followed by the Uch-Korgon rural district — 32,894, Orozbekov — 25,539, A. Masaliev — 25,070, Iskhak-Polotkhan — 22,817, Moldonyaaz — 21,206, Ak-Turpak — 19,040, and Birlik — 13,520 people.
The city of Kadamjay has a population of 17,001, while Aydarken has 14,372.
The main activities of the local population are agriculture, farming, and livestock breeding. The district has 51 preschool institutions and 87 schools.
Origin of the Name and Legends
According to legend, when Aziret-Ali visited these places, the snow melted under his feet, leaving footprints on the ground. Since then, this place has been called Kadamjay — "where the foot stepped."
The center of the district, the city of Kadamjay, is located on an ancient trade route. This route was used by caravans heading to the Syr Darya River, bypassing Fergana, as well as routes through the Alay passes.
Soviet Period and Industrial Development
On December 22, 1930, the previous cantonal structures were abolished, and 24 districts were formed within the Osh region, including the Kyzyl-Kiyin District, created based on the Isfayram and Kulduey volosts, with its center in Uch-Korgon.
From April 1, 1937, the district received a new name — Molotovsky. In 1938, the Khamlion District was separated from it. On October 19, 1940, Khamlion became Frunze, and in 1959, the Uch-Korgon District was abolished, and its territory became part of the Frunze District.
Based on the decision of the district council on March 15, 1991, and the decree of the Supreme Council of the Kyrgyz Republic on March 6, 1992, the Frunze District was once again known by its historical name — Kadamjay District.
The city of Kadamjay emerged as a settlement for metallurgists at the antimony plant established in 1936. The main factor in the development of the district was the Kadamjay Antimony Plant, whose metallurgical factory is located in Kadamjay and includes auxiliary workshops and sections to support the main production.
The modern appearance of the city of Kadamjay was formed on September 27, 2012, according to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic No. 168, when it was created on the basis of the Kadamjay Town Administration with the addition of the villages of Pulgun, Tashkiya, and Chaltash from the Orozbekov rural district.
Current State of Aydarken
Aydarken also received the status of a city of district significance on September 27, 2012. It is located 60 kilometers from Batken and 46 kilometers from Kadamjay.
The city is well-maintained and equipped with electricity, gas, and water supply systems. Residents have access to the internet, mobile communication, and clean drinking water; sewage systems are also operational.
Aydarken hosts the Aydarken Mercury Plant and other enterprises that support the livelihood of the population.
As part of the administrative-territorial reform of the Kadamjay District, the number of rural districts was reduced from 13 to 8.
The district includes two cities with district status — Kadamjay and Aydarken.
