The cities of district significance include Razakov, Aydarken, Kadamjai, Kok-Jangak, Kerben, Kochkor-Ata, Toktogul, Cholpon-Ata, Kara-Suu, Nookat, Uzgen, Kemin, Orlovka, Kaindy, Shopokov, Shamaldy-Say, and Bazar-Korgon, Gulcho.
This week, a new mayor of Kara-Balta was appointed, and the corresponding decree was signed by the president.
The position of mayor of Batken also remains vacant, as Temirbolot Abykeev, who previously held this position, submitted a resignation letter. According to unconfirmed reports, this is related to the upcoming elections to the Jogorku Kenesh.
The president was presented with a question about granting the rural area of Gulcho the status of a city. This bill had previously received approval from the Jogorku Kenesh.
Currently, the head of the Gulcho rural administration is Tajibaev Nursultan Eshenalievich, who is 34 years old.
Later, the president signed a law according to which the rural area of Gulcho became a city of district significance and received the official name — the city of Gulcho, and its borders were also approved.
Now there are 34 cities remaining in the country.
According to the legislation "On Local State Administration and Local Self-Government," the akim appoints the mayors of cities of district significance, while the mayors of Bishkek, Osh, and cities of regional subordination are appointed by the president.
Despite the recent changes in the composition of mayors, the youngest mayor in Kyrgyzstan remains Zhanish Raimzhanov, who has held this position since June 27, 2025.
Zhanish Raimzhanov was born on April 26, 1996, in Mailuu-Suu, located in the Jalal-Abad region. He graduated from Osh State University and the Academy of Public Administration under the President in 2018 with a degree in economics.
From November 2, 2017, to December 13, 2019, he worked in the Osh Territorial Office of the FOMS, holding the position of leading specialist in the information support sector.
From December 12, 2019, to January 19, 2024, he worked in the office of the presidential representative in the Jalal-Abad region, where he served as the chief specialist in the organizational-inspection, personnel work, and monitoring department.
From January 19, 2024, to September 4, 2024, he held the position of deputy mayor for communal issues in the Jalal-Abad mayor's office.
From September 5, 2024, to June 27, 2025, he worked in the office of the presidential representative in the Jalal-Abad region, leading the office.
