Nursultan Tajibaev appointed as the mayor of the city of Gulcho

Nursultan Eshenalievich Tajibaev has been appointed as the mayor of the city of Gülcho.

As reported by Turmush correspondent, the corresponding decision was made by the akim of the Alay district, Chyngyz Bapaev.

Previously, Nursultan Tajibaev held the position of head of the ayil okmotu in the Gulchin ayil district of the Alay region.

On October 15, 2025, President Sadyr Japarov signed a law that classified the Gulcho ayil district of the Alay region in the Osh region as a city of district significance. This law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on September 25, 2025. The document states that Gulcho is now a city, and it also includes a description of its boundaries.

As of today, there are 33 cities in Kyrgyzstan. Among them, Bishkek and Osh have the status of cities of republican significance.

The cities of regional significance include Batken, Kyzyl-Kiya, Suluktu, Jalal-Abad, Tash-Kumyr, Kara-Kul, Mailuu-Suu, Karakol, Balykchy, Naryn, Tokmok, Kara-Balta, Kant, and Talas.

Among the cities of district significance, one can highlight Razakov, Aydarken, Kadamjay, Kok-Jangak, Kerben, Kochkor-Ata, Toktogul, Cholpon-Ata, Kara-Suu, Nookat, Uzgen, Kemin, Orlovka, Kainy, Shopokov, Shamaldy-Say, and Bazar-Korgon.

According to the current law "On Local State Administration and Local Self-Government," mayors of cities of district significance are appointed by the akim, while mayors of Bishkek, Osh, and cities of regional significance are appointed by the president.
