In the new master plan for the capital of Kyrgyzstan, Bishkek, the use of a railway line is planned to launch a city electric train that will connect cities such as Kara-Balta, Bishkek, and Kemin. This was reported on October 27 during an interview with Aziret Akimov, the first deputy director of "Bishkekglavarkhitektura," at the AKIpress agency.
Akimov noted that Bishkek cannot be viewed in isolation from the surrounding settlements — Kant, Sokuluk, Kara-Balta, and Tokmok — which form the metropolitan agglomeration. The new plan envisions organizing transportation links between these cities, allowing for the connection of the eastern and western parts of the region through Bishkek.
“A railway line of ‘Kyrgyz Temir Jolu’ already operates in the central part of the city. The master plan provides for its use to create a city electric train that will connect Kemin and Kara-Balta. This will be a high-speed line capable of reaching speeds of up to 150–160 km/h on free sections, similar to the systems in St. Petersburg. Naturally, speed limits will be introduced in populated areas,” added Akimov.
Furthermore, he emphasized that in the future, Bishkek will become the central hub of the agglomeration, while Sokuluk, Kara-Balta, Kant, and Tokmok will serve as sub-centers, taking on some functions of the capital.
