The general development plan for Bishkek, projected until 2050, aims to create three new rapid public transport systems. These measures will contribute to improving transport capacity and ensuring accessibility in the capital.
Urban Railway Line
A route is planned to connect the western, central, and eastern parts of the city, as well as provide a link to the villages of Kozhomkul and Novopokrovka.
As part of the project, it is planned to:
- electrify a 28 km railway segment;
- construct additional tracks on existing single-track sections;
- reconstruct four existing stations: Bishkek-1, Bishkek-2, Sokuluk, and Alamedin;
- build four new stops and upgrade four existing ones (including "Ala-Too," "Lenin Factory," "Selsovet," and "Nooruz");
- construct a railway depot.
Light Rail Transport (Tram)
New tram routes will connect the southern and central districts, as well as the southwestern and southeastern parts of the city, including access to the new bus station.
The plan includes:
- the construction of 45.1 km of tram tracks;
- the establishment of one tram depot.
Metrobus
A network of metrobuses is proposed, stretching 93.4 km, which will link the north and south, as well as the north and center of the city, with access to bus stations and the international airport "Manas."
Transport Interchange Hubs
The general plan also includes the organization of 19 transport interchange hubs (TIH) at three levels to improve transfers:
- State level — based at the "Manas" airport, existing and new bus stations, and the "Bishkek-2" station;
- Agglomeration level — at intra-city stations and stops;
- City level — at points where tram lines and non-rail transport intersect.
Non-Rail Transport
The expansion of the bus and electric bus route network is planned to serve both new and existing residential and business areas.
The length of the street and road network for buses and electric buses will be 685.4 km.
Additionally, the following measures will be implemented:
- the construction of two new bus depots and the upgrade of four existing ones;
- the creation of 12 new and reconstruction of 7 existing layover-turnaround areas;
- the construction of 5 terminal stops for trams.
Public Hearings
The Bishkek City Hall has announced public hearings on the General Plan project until 2050, which will take place on December 24 and 25, 2025, in the format of discussions by districts.
