A recent meeting held by the special representative of the President of Kyrgyzstan for the implementation of the Decade of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions, Dinara Kemelova, with Oleg Guchgeldiev, a representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and Giorgio Grusso, program coordinator of the Mountain Partnership Secretariat in Rome, was an important step towards the realization of this project. According to the president's press service, the meeting discussed the details of the project "Promoting Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions within the Framework of the Mountain Partnership." Grusso reported that at the beginning of 2023, the Italian government approved a grant to support small producers and craft cooperatives located in the mountainous areas of Kyrgyzstan. This project plans to establish a business incubator and accelerator that will provide grants and technical assistance to agricultural cooperatives, farmers, and artisans, as well as ensure collaboration between renowned designers and local craftsmen. Kemelova emphasized the importance of conducting a transparent and fair selection of project participants, as well as the need to cover a wide geographical area of mountain regions, with a focus on remote areas where women and local communities particularly need additional support for their development. Guchgeldiev added that this project will serve as a foundation for subsequent initiatives aimed at developing sustainable businesses and creating new economic opportunities in the mountain communities of Kyrgyzstan. During the meeting, participants noted Kyrgyzstan's potential for further involvement in similar initiatives and discussed ways to attract investments from international financial institutions and funds to support the sustainable development of mountain regions.
