Ministry of Foreign Affairs: 2025 was a significant year for Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Jeenbek Kulubaev, summarized the results of the country's foreign policy activities for 2025 during his speech at the New Year reception for diplomats and outlined priority directions for the future.
According to Kulubaev, the past year was filled with important events for Kyrgyz diplomacy. One of the key achievements was the completion of the legal formalization of the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The Minister emphasized that this event holds historical significance not only for Central Asia but for the entire international community, serving as a unique example of transforming a zone of interstate tension into a space of friendship and good neighborliness, which significantly strengthened stability and security in the Fergana Valley.

The Minister also noted that Kyrgyzstan continues its course towards openness. In 2025, the number of countries with which the republic maintains diplomatic relations increased from 172 to 185. An important step in this direction was the opening of Kyrgyzstan's first embassy in Africa, located in Addis Ababa, where the headquarters of the African Union is situated. Additionally, an embassy was established in Egypt, with the appointment of an ambassador expected soon.

Speaking about the scale of the achieved results, Kulubaev reported that 190 high-level meetings took place during the year, and 633 international agreements and documents were signed. Kyrgyzstan actively participates in shaping and implementing both global and regional international agendas, successfully chairing the Organization of Turkic States and the Collective Security Treaty Organization, as well as being a member of the UN Human Rights Council. The Minister specifically mentioned the promotion of the initiative "Decade of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions" for 2023-2027.

Kulubaev noted that Kyrgyzstan also received a wide international response to its other initiatives, including the election of the country to the Executive Board of UNESCO and the unanimous adoption of a UN General Assembly resolution proclaiming September 22 as International Day of Nomadic Heritage, which recognized the cultural and intellectual contribution of the Kyrgyz people to the global community.
