Unrequited Love: the ballet 'The Fountain of Bakhchisarai' will be shown in Bishkek

On February 7 at 17:00, audiences in Bishkek will be able to enjoy the ballet "The Fountain of Bakhchisarai," which will be presented on the stage of the A. Maldybaev Kyrgyz National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet.

The plot of this ballet is based on the poem of the same name by Alexander Pushkin, inspired by the legend of the unrequited love of Khan Girey for the Polish girl Maria, which took place during the time of the Crimean Khanate. The water flowing from the fountain of the Bakhchisarai Palace symbolizes the tears of the sorrowful Khan Girey.

The Kyrgyz interpretation of the ballet is an adaptation of the choreography created by Rostislav Zakharov, who is considered the founder of dramatic ballet. The editing was done by the People's Artist of the Kyrgyz SSR, Erkin Mademilova.
