Kazakhstani doctors prepare to fight the new virus from India

In connection with the threat of the Nipah virus, which can be transmitted from animals (including bats and pigs) and between people, Kazakhstan has prepared stocks of medications and protective equipment in infectious hospitals. The Ministry of Health noted that the disease can manifest as high fever, headache, and general weakness, and in more severe cases can lead to central nervous system damage and pneumonia.

Those planning trips to India and other Southeast Asian countries are advised to follow preventive measures and to seek medical attention immediately if symptoms of the disease arise. Currently, there is no vaccine developed against the Nipah virus.

Recently, emergency measures were taken in the Indian state of West Bengal after the Nipah virus was detected, where five cases of infection have been recorded. About 100 people who had contact with the infected individuals have been quarantined, as reported by The Independent. Among the infected are also healthcare workers, including two nurses in Kolkata, whose condition is assessed as critical. This information was confirmed by a senior representative of the local health department. Additionally, the virus has been diagnosed in a doctor and another hospital staff member, raising concerns about the spread of infection within medical institutions.
