How Kazakhstan Plans to Avoid a Price Shock at Gas Stations

According to representatives of the Ministry of Energy, there will be no sharp increase in fuel prices, even if the moratorium is lifted, as reported by Ulysmedia.kz.

The temporary moratorium on the rise in prices for AI-92 gasoline was introduced to control inflation and will last until the end of March. The ministry assured that even with the cancellation of the moratorium, there will be no sharp increase in prices.

Energy Minister Erlan Akkenzhenov noted: “We have temporarily suspended the rise in prices and market mechanisms. If after March 31 the government decides not to intervene in the operations of gas stations, the market will determine supply and demand on its own, and we will not allow a sharp increase in prices. All changes will correspond to the current state of our economy.”

At the same time, economist Arman Beysembayev does not rule out the possibility of lifting the moratorium on gasoline as early as March. He predicts that this will lead to an increase in fuel prices.
