The winter view of the Kök-Kiya waterfall, located in the Kök-Kiya gorge in the Arabik valley of the Aitmatov district. This waterfall was described by Nuria Orozbaeva, a senior researcher at the Kara-Buura Nature Park.

“This waterfall is located 65 kilometers from the center of the Aitmatov district. It is situated in an area we call the Arabik valley and literally breaks through the mountainside. The history of this place is passed down through generations: ‘The Prophet Idris, fleeing from the Jews, reached these lands. He suffered greatly from thirst and asked the Almighty for water. Then part of the mountain collapsed, and a spring of water gushed forth from this place.’ This waterfall is called Kök-Kiya.

The Kara-Buura Nature Park was established on December 11, 2012, by decree No. 822. It was created to preserve biodiversity and protect flora and fauna. The territory of the state nature park Kara-Buura covers 61,770 hectares. The nature park borders neighboring countries and regions: to the north — the Republic of Kazakhstan, to the south — Chatkal, to the west — Uzbekistan, and to the east — the Bakai-Ata district,” she said.
