Digital data will become official evidence
The Government of Kyrgyzstan has launched a project that entails significant changes to the country's criminal code, aimed at effectively combating cybercrime. As part of the new bill, which is currently undergoing public discussions, mechanisms for the seizure, storage, and confiscation of cryptocurrency are being introduced for the first time.
According to the proposed document, digital data, including internet traffic logs and messaging correspondence, will be recognized as official evidence. This reform is aimed at eliminating existing legal gaps that sometimes resulted in electronic data not being accepted by courts.
The financial aspect also plays an important role: in cases where it is impossible to seize cryptocurrency, the law will allow for the confiscation of equivalent property or monetary funds. According to experts, the update of the criminal and criminal procedural codes of Kyrgyzstan will help synchronize national legislation with modern digital realities and simplify international cooperation in the investigation of transnational cybercrimes.
