Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan plan to increase mutual trade volume to $500 million


During the working visit of the Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Kohir Rasulzoda, to Kyrgyzstan, a meeting was held with the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Head of the Presidential Administration of the Kyrgyz Republic, Adylbek Kasymaliev. This event is part of the first meeting of the intergovernmental council of the two countries.

Kasymaliev noted that the resolution of border issues has historical significance, contributing to the establishment of strong friendly ties between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. He also emphasized that deepening cooperation with Tajikistan is a key direction of the foreign policy of the Kyrgyz Republic. As part of the upcoming efforts, by 2025, the parties will focus on activating cultural-humanitarian and economic interactions, improving living conditions in border areas, and developing bilateral relations in all directions.

Speaking about trade turnover, Kasymaliev reported that last year it amounted to $36 million, which is a significant increase—almost 24 times compared to the same period in 2024.

Furthermore, he noted that the presidents of the two countries have set the task of increasing the volume of trade to $500 million and expressed readiness to achieve this goal.

The Prime Minister of Tajikistan, for his part, thanked the Kyrgyz side for the warm welcome and emphasized the importance of the first meeting of the intergovernmental council for strengthening cooperation in various areas.

Rasulzoda also noted that developing relations with Kyrgyzstan is a priority in Tajikistan's foreign policy.

He expressed readiness to implement the ambitious tasks set by the leaders of the two countries.

During the discussions, the parties touched upon relevant issues of cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, and culture.
