Kyrgyzstani judoka Erlan Sherov won the gold medal at the European Open Cup

Erlan Sherov competed in the weight category up to 90 kg and confidently progressed through the tournament, starting from the 1/16 finals, where he received a bye in the first round.

In his first match, he won against Belgian Karl Fubert, then in the 1/8 finals he defeated Lithuanian Augustas Slizerins, and in the quarterfinals, he overcame Frenchman Eniel Caroli. In the semifinals, the Kyrgyz athlete faced Egyptian Abdallah Abdelsameh and also emerged victorious.

In the final bout, Sherov fought against Russian athlete David Karapetyan and won the gold medal, becoming the champion of the tournament.

Three judokas represented Kyrgyzstan at this tournament: Erlan Sherov (up to 90 kg), Erbol Abasbekov, and Khanbolot Yrysbekov (both up to 66 kg). The coaching staff was led by head coach Erkin Ibragimov and senior coach Azat Kubakaev.
