
Composer and multi-instrumentalist Michel Portal has passed away at the age of 90, as reported by the Agence France-Presse, citing his representative.
“Michel Portal, an outstanding figure in modern jazz in France, has died at the age of 90,” the information states.
Born in 1935 in Bayonne, Michel Portal became one of the most renowned musicians on the French jazz scene. He was educated at the Paris Conservatory, where he studied conducting and classical clarinet. Throughout his career, Portal received numerous prestigious music awards, including several “Victoires de la Musique.”
Since 1975, he began composing music for films. Portal won the “César” award three times: in 1983 for the film “The Return of Martin Guerre,” in 1985 for “Storm Riders,” and in 1988 for “Field of Honor.”
